Prepare Bhang for this Holi
Posted in : Recipes on by : admin
“Bhang” is a traditional Indian drink made from cannabis, often consumed during the festival of Holi. However, it’s important to note that cannabis consumption and possession are illegal in many parts of the world. If you’re in a location where it’s legal and culturally acceptable to make bhang, here’s a recipe for you:
Bhang Recipe for Holi
Ingredients:
- 15-20 grams of dried cannabis leaves and flowers (you can adjust the quantity based on potency preference)
- 1 liter of milk (whole milk or any plant-based milk like almond or coconut milk)
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
- A pinch of saffron strands (optional)
- Chopped nuts for garnish (almonds, pistachios, etc.)
Instructions:
- Decarboxylation:
- Preheat your oven to 240°F (115°C).
- Spread the cannabis flowers and leaves evenly on a baking sheet.
- Bake for about 40-45 minutes. This process activates the THC in the cannabis.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool.
- Grinding:
- Grind the decarboxylated cannabis into a coarse powder using a grinder or mortar and pestle.
- Infusion:
- In a saucepan, bring water to a boil.
- Add the ground cannabis and let it boil for about 7-10 minutes. This helps in extracting the cannabinoids.
- Reduce the heat and pour in the milk.
- Add sugar, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, and saffron strands.
- Let the mixture simmer on low heat for another 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to infuse and the milk to thicken slightly.
- Strain:
- Once the mixture has simmered, turn off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean container. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible.
- Discard the leftover cannabis solids.
- Chilling:
- Allow the bhang mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate the bhang for at least 2 hours or until thoroughly chilled.
- Serving:
- Stir the chilled bhang well before serving.
- Pour it into glasses and garnish with chopped nuts if desired.
- Serve and enjoy responsibly!
Remember, the effects of consuming bhang can be potent, so consume it responsibly and be mindful of local laws and regulations regarding cannabis use. Additionally, always make sure to label any cannabis-containing foods or beverages properly, especially if there are individuals who should not consume them, such as children or pets. Enjoy your Holi celebrations safely and respectfully!
